One of my favorite things to bring to a potluck or cookout is Apple Snickers Salad, which also goes by Snickers Apple Salad, Snickers Salad, and many other names. This dessert salad combines crisp chunks of fresh apple and bite-sized pieces of Snickers candy bars with a creamy mixture of sweetened cream cheese and Cool Whip.

I like to make it with Granny Smith apples because the sweet and tart flavors remind me of homemade caramel apples, but any crisp variety will work here — Pink Lady, Ambrosia, and Honeycrisp are all great options!’

Why Make Snickers Salad With Cream Cheese / Without Pudding?

While the variation I’m familiar with uses cream cheese, I know that other Snicker apple salad recipes call for instant vanilla pudding mix instead. Both variations are equally easy to make, but I prefer the tangy flavor from the cream cheese to the simple sweetness of the instant pudding mixture.

Although I prefer to make this Snicker fruit salad without pudding mix, you should feel free to experiment with pudding mix and any other variations or substitutions that sound good to you! It’s a very forgiving recipe.

Chop the apples and Snickers bars into bite-size chunks and stir them into the cream cheese mixture. Cover the bowl, refrigerate for 1 hour, and it’s ready to serve!

TIPS:

  • It’s best to make this apple Snickers dessert the same day you plan to eat it. The chopped apples release liquid over time, making the cream cheese mixture runny.
  • If you want to chop the apples ahead of time, add a little lemon juice to keep the apples from browning. (This will increase the tartness of the apples, so you may want to add a bit more powdered sugar to compensate.)
  • A Danish dough whisk is perfect for folding the Cool Whip into the sweetened cream cheese mixture!

Tasty Variations To Try

  • Avoid aggravating a peanut allergy by using peanut-free Mars Bars!
  • Instead of whipped topping, use real whipped cream.
  • Drizzle some chocolate, butterscotch, or caramel sauce over the finished salad.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts over the top of this candy bar salad.
  • Add some sweetened coconut.
  • Top with mini chocolate chips.
  • Scatter some mini marshmallows on top.
  • Try marshmallow cream instead of cream cheese.
