What is the FitOn app?

Finally—a workout app that makes you want to exercise every day (1)

Home to workouts led by athletes, fitness creators, and celebrity trainers like Lindsey Vonn, Jonathan Van Ness, and Gabrielle Union, FitOn is an all-in-one workout app that provides fitness programming, nutrition plans, and educational content.

Like with many other workout apps, when you first sign up, FitOn asks you a series of questions about your experience and fitness goals to curate a personalized fitness plan, as well as what devices—like a Fitbit or Apple TV—you already own to enhance your app experience.

The app offers a variety of prerecorded exercise classes—including strength training, yoga, Pilates, and HIIT—that range from 5 minutes to one hour. It also has meditation, stretching, and mobility options for warm-ups, cool-downs, and self care. Like with most workout apps, you can filter by intensity level and target area.

You can also select from FitOn’s challenges and courses, such as “10-Day Kickstarter” or “Ultimate 30-Day HIIT,” which group similar classes together for multiple weeks to keep you motivated and working toward a goal.

Is FitOn free?

A basic version of FitOn is available for completely free, but to access the app’s premium features you’ll need a subscription. You get unlimited workouts with the free version, but much more with a FitOn Pro membership.

With FitOn Pro you get personalized class recommendations, the ability to cast your workouts to your TV, a meal plan, the ability to download classes for offline streaming, and music selections during class from FitOn’s radio channels or your own Spotify or Apple Music account. FitOn Pro costs $25 for a six-month subscription or $30 for a year-long membership.

What we like about FitOn

It’s easy to incorporate into your everyday routine

FitOn is clearly designed to be used daily. The app prompts you to sync it with your calendar so you get reminders when it’s time for a workout class. (The timing and frequency will change based on the answers you gave in the initial survey, which you can change at any time through the settings.)

Getting reminders to exercise really did help me take more classes with FitOn, and the consistent timing helped me build a routine. Most classes require no or minimal equipment, making it a great option for anyone who doesn't have an extensive home gym setup.

FitOn’s challenges are another great way to stay motivated and consistent. I joined the February Challenge, and it was a great way to track my progress while I worked toward the goal of 10 classes in the month of February.

The classes are fun

FitOn offers tons of classes to choose from, with a variety of exercise modalities and instructors—there’s something for all fitness levels and goals. I took mainly Pilates, yoga, and stretching classes and always looked forward to my time using FitOn.

The instructors are encouraging and positive, and their cheery disposition helped me power through tough classes. They’re detailed with their directions which allowed me to feel confident in my movements.

It’s more than a workout app

Finally—a workout app that makes you want to exercise every day (4)

For anyone looking for a comprehensive health and wellness app, FitOn is a great option. In addition to fitness programming, the app offers personalized meal plans and recipes, informational articles about topics like weight loss and self care, and motivational social media-like features.

I didn’t test the food portion of the app, but FitOn offers a variety of recipes as well as informational videos and programs on topics such as mindful eating, meal prepping, and counting macronutrients.

The app’s social features are a huge plus for anyone looking for a motivational community. The app lets you follow your friends and even exercise with them virtually via FitOn Party, the app’s video call feature you can use during classes.

You can also join groups related to your interests—I joined two, “Walkers United” and “Fitbiters”—where members can post questions, share their progress, and post classes they’ve taken.

What we don’t like about FitOn

Finally—a workout app that makes you want to exercise every day (5)

You have to pay to get the most out of it

While you can still access FitOn workouts for free, you’ll probably have a better experience with FitOn’s Pro plan. Being able to pick my music during class and stream workout sessions to my TV made for a more enjoyable workout. When other apps like the best workout app, Nike Training Club, are free, you may not be able to justify the cost.

You can’t get a month-to-month membership

Currently, FitOn Pro costs $25 for a six-month commitment or $30 for an annual subscription. While you can use the free version of the app to test out how you like FitOn’s workouts, you can’t sign up for a monthly membership to test out the premium features before committing to a longer subscription period.

What other people are saying about FitOn

FitOn has a 4.9-star rating in the App Store from more than 282,000 reviews. Satisfied users say they love the variety of FitOn’s free workouts, and that the app’s motivations features have helped them stick to their workout routines.

“This is the best fitness app I’ve ever used as far as motivation and variety goes,” one reviewer says. “I’ve consistently worked out every day since downloading it and have added a lot of variation to my workouts. I can see myself using this app for a very long time.”

However, some users say the app’s food planning isn’t up to par, and can be difficult to use for those with allergies or other dietary restrictions.

Is FitOn worth it?

Finally—a workout app that makes you want to exercise every day (6)

Yes, especially for those who struggle to exercise regularly

FitOn is a fun fitness platform that everyone can enjoy. But if you’re someone who struggles with sticking to workout routines, you’ll definitely want to give it a try. FitOn’s calendar reminders, motivating ways to track your progress, and social features make you want to keep using it, and the classes are so fun you’ll look forward to opening the app every day.

You’ll need to pay to get the most out of it, like a customized workout plan, access to FitOn’s premium music selection, or the ability to stream your workouts. And if you’re looking for an app with nutrition guidance you may find that FitOn’s falls short. But if you can afford the subscription price, FitOn will make sure you stick to your routine day after day—and may save you time and money in the long run.
