How to Measure for a Hiking Stick (3)Cutting Your Hiking Stick

While gripping the Hiker shaft twist the rubber tip from the end. If the rubber tip is too tight, work a squirt of WD-40 or a solution of warm water and liquid soap between the shaft and the tip. Cutting can be achieved with most normal manual and power saws, though you will want a finer blade to avoid splintering. Once the tip has been removed, cut the Hiker at the marked point, and then replace the rubber tip back onto the bottom. To allow for individual differences, you should cut longer than the determined size and check for comfort before making the final cut. (Tips add an approx. ½” to 1" cushion to the final height of a hiker.)
