What Level is Recommended for the DLC?

Best Faced at Level 150 or Higher

For Shadow of the Erdtree, we recommend being Level 150 and higher, or at least within Level 125 at the barest minimum due to its difficulty.

As the Elden Ring DLC was made with endgame content in mind, players can expect to fight high-level opponents that have higher damage scaling than even the late game sections of the base game.

How to Access the DLC

Defeat Mohg and Radahn

Before gaining access to the Land of Shadow, players must first defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood in order to fulfill the expansion's start conditions.

Beating the Entire Game is Not Required

Despite being an endgame-level expansion, players are not required to clear the game in order to access this expansion, as they can immediately access it from Mohgwyn Palace after both Radahn and Mohg are dead.

Interact with the Cocoon of the Empyrean

Upon revisiting Mohgwyn Palace, a new NPC named Needle Knight Leda will be there, instructing the player to touch the Cocoon of the Empyrean to enter the Land of Shadow.

Restart the Game if Leda is Not Beside the Cocoon

If Leda is absent from the front of the cocoon upon returning, try restarting your game as it will completely reload everything, allowing Leda to spawn in their intended spot.

Get the Map Fragment for Gravesite Plain

Once inside the Realm of Shadow, head northeast just under the Scorched Ruins to unlock the map (it will be marked by an orange icon if your map is still greyed out). Then, make your way north, following the road from the Scorched Ruins to arrive at a crossroads.

At the crossroads, there will be two NPCs there for you to talk to - Redmane Freyja and Hornsent - providing you with useful information regarding the Land of Shadow.

Collect Scadutree Fragments Before Exploring Further

First, collect as many Scadutree Fragments as you can. There are a few that can be easily acquired as shown on the image above, and we suggest getting them before continuing on with the story.

The enemies in the Land of Shadow are incredibly powerful, capable of one or two-shotting your characters even if they are at Level 150+ with a generous amount of Vigor. You can safely ignore many of them until you have enough Scadutree Fragment upgrades.

Enemies Can Be Ignored

As intimidating as the opponents are, you can safely ignore them and focus on collecting Scadutree Fragments to increase your power in the Realm of Shadow. This will help you later on once you start exploring the DLC Legacy Dungeons.

Go to Castle Ensis to Defeat Rellana

Rellana, Twin Moon Knight resides in the courtyard of Castle Ensis, blocking you from reaching the next region. She will need to be taken down first before you are able to progress.

We recommend using weapons that hit hard or inflict bleed, as she is agile and resistant to magic damage. You may summon Spirit Ashes or even Needle Knight Leda to assist in this fight.

Upon leaving the castle, going up the road will lead you to another crossroads where you will find the second map piece for Scadutree Altus region in the Realm of Shadow.
