Five tips to extend the lifespan of your resistance band (2024)

Unlike other training materials, resistance bands are a relatively inexpensive way to add resistance to your training. Despite the low purchase price, you naturally want to enjoy your resistance bands for as long as possible. How long a resistance band will last depends on various factors. Think about the quality of the band, how often you use the bandand how you handle the band. We will further elaborate on this latter aspect in this article. Because what can you do to extend the life of your resistance band?

1. Attach the resistance band to smooth surfaces

The very first tip is perhaps the most important piece of advice to follow. To achieve a maximum lifespan, you must reduce the friction between the strap and the mounting object as much as possible. Therefore, only attach the resistance band to smooth, even rods, posts and other surfaces. To help you with this, various accessories are available. First of all, there is the StreetGains resistance band handle. This is a special handle that fits any resistance band. The handle not only improves the life of the band, but also increases the comfort of your resistance band training. There is also the StreetGains door anchor. With this door anchor you broaden the mounting options of the band. It also reduces the friction between the strap and the mounting object.

2. Do not leave the resistance band in the hot sun

Our fourth tip is not to leave the bandhanging or lying in the hot sun. This of course does not mean that you cannot use the resistance band on a hot summer day. You can use the band in the sun without feeling guilty, but don't leave it there after your workout.

3. Do not stretch the resistance band too far

A resistance band is characterized by its great stretchability, but of course there is a limit. You can stretch the resistance band to 2.5 times its own length without worry. The standard StreetGains bandshave a length of 104 centimeters. This means that the band can be stretched to about 260 centimeters without any problem. You certainly don't need more! Stretching the belt further will only shorten its life.

4.Avoid wet resistance bands

Whether you use a rubber or fabric StreetGains resistance band, it is best to prevent it from getting wet. Do you want to train outside in the pouring rain? That is possible, but make sure that you dry the bandswell after use, so that they do not stay wet. Wet bandscan damage the rubber over time. Which has a negative effect on the durability of the band. Do not store the resistance bands in your damp bag with a leaking water bottle.Dry the resistance band immediately when you are finished and store it in the StreetGains carrying bag supplied as standard.

5. Remove sand and stones from under your shoe sole

Do you use the resistance band to perform pull-ups or a bicep curl, for example? Then it is insurmountable that you step on the band. In most cases this does not cause any problems, but it does when your shoe sole is full of dust, sand and stones. The dirt acts like sandpaper on the belt. This can cause damage to the bandand greatly accelerate wear. Therefore, always make sure that the dirt is removed from under your shoes before you start the training. Do you want to be completely safe? Then take off your shoes and step on the resistance band with your socks or bare feet.
