During the construction process, it's important to understand the permeability of protective materials. Manufacturers of air and vapor barriers, as well as many waterproof coatings, often provide this stat in the form of a "perm rating."Coastal Construction Products explains what this rating means for your product's performance:https://hubs.li/Q02twwnG0

Heavy ventilation units, plantations, or other loads on a flat roof exert considerable pressure on the insulation. Most insulation materials will deform under such loads, which causes extra stress on the waterproofing membrane. This will cause the membrane to deteriorate and age faster. This is not the case with FOAMGLAS® insulation. It retains its strength under pressure and can support heavy loads. Find out more about the longevity of FOAMGLAS® insulation and how that translates into sustainable construction: https://lnkd.in/esEa-y9.

In order to guarantee that expansion joints in sustainable construction are effective: * Material Selection/ Select strong, eco-friendly materials for the expansion joint that will not deteriorate over time and require fewer replacements. *Design Considerations/ To account for thermal fluctuations and guard against structural damage, include expansion joints in the building's design. *Sealing/ Seal expansion joints correctly to stop water intrusion, which can cause material deterioration and corrosion. Give eco-friendly sealants a try.#sustainability #waterproofing #sealants #expansionjoints

Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete is known for its lightweight and insulating properties. However, it has recently come under scrutiny as to why— with a life span of about 30 years—it has been utilized within a range of public sector buildings that require longevity. If your business has a building constructed with RAAC methods, or if you are planning to build with this technique in the future, here are some of the common challenges to look out for and steps to mitigate them: https://ow.ly/4mjV50Q9IvK

🏗️ RUCA Engineers: Ensuring Effective Damp-Proofing for Long-Lasting Structures! 🌧️At RUCA Engineers, we understand the significance of proper damp-proofing to safeguard your buildings. 🏢💧 Damp-proof courses and flashings play a critical role in preventing moisture-related issues, and their correct installation is key! Here's what you need to know:🔹 Damp-proof courses and flashings must form a continuous barrier:Around the bottom perimeter of concrete slab wallsIn walls and piers below suspended floorsWhere masonry walls pass through roofsWhere roofs abut external masonry wallsAt the bottom and tops of windows and doors, except when protected by eaves exceeding 3 times the height of the masonry veneer.🔹 The location of the damp-proof course or flashing matters:It should be at least 150 mm above ground levelOr 75 mm above paved, concreted, or landscaped areas sloping away from the wallAlternatively, 50 mm above finished paved areas protected by a carport, verandah, or similar structuresIn low rainfall areas, it can be as low as 15 mm above finished paved areas or even 0 mm if protected by a carport, verandah, or the like.💡 When it comes to damp-proofing, attention to detail is crucial! Our experienced team at RUCA Engineers ensures proper installation, ensuring a robust barrier against moisture-related problems. Trust us to protect your investments and maintain structural integrity for years to come.📞 Contact us today for expert advice and professional damp-proofing services in Sydney, Australia. The building and construction industry involve several important concepts and considerations to ensure the durability, safety, and the functionality of structures. One of those important concepts is waterproofing systems. Waterproofing systems are designed to create a barrier against water penetration and to manage water runoff effectively. Here are some thoughts around the importance of such a system: - Protection against water infiltration, water penetrate building structures can lead to structural damage, mold growth, and compromised building integrity. Waterproofing membranes act as a reliable shield, preventing water from seeping into the building and mitigating these risks.- Long-Term Structural Preservation, for example by resisting underground water penetration, these membranes help extend the lifespan of structures. They protect building materials, reducing the need for extensive repairs and maintenance, and ensuring the longevity of the construction.-Waterproofing systems depending on the type, can be applied to various surfaces, including basem*nts, foundations, and retaining walls. This versatility enables effective protection against underground water in a wide range of construction projects.-Waterproofing systems contribute to the sustainability of buildings and the environment. This system helps reduce the consumption of resources by minimizing water-related damage and the need for extensive repairs.Importantly to mention that waterproofing systems can be provided in various solutions and forms. Share your experiences and insights.#Construction #waterproofingsolutions #Sustainability#UndergroundWaterProtection #cementindustry #ksa2023

With the recent changes to H1 requirements in the construction industry, it's fascinating to witness the emergence of innovative solutions to meet these new standards. One not-so-new approach, but a fundamental one, involves increasing the R-values through thicker insulation. However, as we delve deeper into this solution, a recurring question surfaces on the GIB® Helpline: "Will the added weight impact the ceiling linings?

It is essential for the success of any structural waterproofing project below ground - those strategies for dealing with groundwater, soil gases and contaminants are considered from the very earliest stages of the planning and design processes. For new structures, it is recommended that the structural design, overall weatherproofing design, waterproofing design, and construction processes are considered together, as they generally interact. In addition, it is recommended that, during the design process and at all stages of the construction process, the designers, specialists, manufacturers/suppliers and installing contractors establish and maintain effective channels of communication. Regular and clear communication coupled with good site supervision allows variations and amendments to the design to be planned and executed without compromising the performance of the waterproofed structure.Today, a manufacturer/suppliers must be way more than just a seller of structural waterproofing products. The manufacturer must provide a proven solution and a functional below grade waterproofing system. This mostly ends up in a combination of Type A and Type B waterproofing in accordance to the British Standard BS 8102:2022.#membrane #cavitydrainmembrane #damparea #retainingwall #groundbarrier #watertable #pressurizedwater #groundwater #waterfromtheground #seepage #tanking #reservoir #vapour #vapourpressure #waterproof #waterproofing #barrier #barritex #cemproof #waterresistant #waterstop #protection #structurallyintegral #constructionjoints #design #architect #designteal #supplyer #quality #system #reinforcedconcrete #sump #internal #external #dualproof #cemflex #quellmax #bentonite #bentoniteliner #bentonitewaterstop #bentonitetechnology #preapplied #TPO #TPOmembrane #fullybonded #polymermembrane #activemembrane #selfsealing #selfhealing #swelling
