What does a producer do? ›

Producers make the business and financial decisions for a film, stage production, or TV show. They raise money for the project and hire the director and crew, which may include designers, editors, and other workers.

Inspired, Max proposes a scheme to find the worst musical ever written, hire the worst director and actors in New York, raise $2 million of investment from elderly women, produce the work on Broadway, close it after one night, and escape to Rio de Janeiro with the money.

But the scheme unexpectedly goes wrong when "Springtime for Hitler" becomes a "so bad it's good" hit. Themes: Greed, loyalty, friendships, positive results of a strong work ethic, comedy as a healing power. Language/Sexual Innuendo: Strong language, sexual innuendo and adult humor.

Down and out producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel), who was once the toast of Broadway, trades sexual favors with old ladies for cash contributions. Max's new accountant Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder), offhandedly muses that if Max found investors for a new production that turned into a flop, he could legally keep all the extra money. The duo begins to put together the worst play possible, titled "Springtime for Hitler", with a terrible director and a hippie-freak star.

Either employed by a production company or working independently, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing. The producer is responsible for finding and selecting promising material for development.

Producers are at the financial, practical and creative heart of a film or TV drama. They are often the first to get involved, spotting the creative opportunity and commercial viability of a production. They continue as the driving force right through to distribution. They are the overall decision makers.

A producer is an organism that creates its own food or energy. A consumer is an organism that gets its energy by eating plants or animals. Producers, also called autotrophs, include plants, bacteria, and algae. Plants get energy from the sun and turn it into food, a sugar called glucose.

Some are on the set daily. Some aren't. Some producers hire Line Producers to be on the set daily and handle problems. Sometimes many producers are involved, each taking an aspect of production, such as watching over the various special effects units, watching over the various location shoots.

Leo comforts Franz, while Max tries to convince Franz to kill the actors, but Leo intervenes. After a reconciliation, the three band together and decide to blow up the theater to end the production, but they are injured, arrested, tried, and found "incredibly guilty" by the jury.

Is a tree a producer? ›

Producers are any kind of green plant. Green plants make their food by taking sunlight and using the energy to make sugar. The plant uses this sugar, also called glucose to make many things, such as wood, leaves, roots, and bark. Trees, such as they mighty Oak, and the grand American Beech, are examples of producers.

A gun-wielding Franz confronts Leo and Max. He tries first to shoot them, and then himself, but runs out of bullets. The three then decide to blow up the theater to end the production, but they are caught in the explosion and arrested.

Critics Reviews

The Producers has many things going for it -- notably a wild, ad-lib energy that explodes in a series of sight gags and punch lines. Content collapsed. Mel Brooks has turned a funny idea into a slapstick film, thanks to the performers, particularly Zero Mostel. Content collapsed.

Arrested for his tax fraud, Max is imprisoned while Leo elopes with Ulla to Rio de Janeiro ("Betrayed"). About to be sentenced, Max is saved by Leo, who returns to defend him ("'Til Him"). The judge, realizing Leo and Max are inseparable, sentences them both to five years at Sing Sing Prison with Franz.

A Producer's Responsibilities During the Filmmaking Process

They conceptualize or pick a script, gather rights, form a team, manage finances, and supervise the process. Hiring a director might further refine the script.

If you are a newer producer without too much of a reputation, you can expect from $0 to $3,500 per song. If you are considered a mid-level producer, your range increased to $3,500 to $7,000 per song. Finally, if your name carries weight in the music industry, you can receive up to $10,000 to $15,000 per song.

Producers set the budget and approve any major changes to the project. They make sure that the production is completed on time, and they are ultimately responsible for the final product. Although directors are in charge of the creative aspects of a show, they ultimately answer to producers.

Line producers are on set daily to make sure the budget is being followed accordingly. Everything involved with the budget, the line producer has a hand in—and the top producer, of course. A co-producer: They work with and under the producer and helps with a variety of different aspects of the day-to-day operations.
